Some people are confused about the nature of prayer and their relationship with God.
Is he a genie that I can ask wishes from? Why doesn’t he grant my prayers?
The truth is it’s highly complicated because God wants a relationship with you much like father does with its child but sin and the inability to see him and directly communicate with him make understanding this relationship even harder.
Never the less he can see and hear us and knows everything that we desire and need, so why is it so hard to understand why our prayers go unanswered.
The answer is actually quite simple but without relating the two together it’s easy to misunderstand.
Prayer has a form of currency
If I mow the lawn at home I don’t get rewarded with currency to go buy something do I, but if I mow for someone else then I do get compensated, yet if I wow my own yard and while I’m doing it I wow my neighbors as a friendly gesture and not expecting to be payed, I might get compensated one day in their return of a friendly gesture in another form.
Prayer is much the same way. You want something? What did you do to earn it? Doing nice things for your friends and family is great but it has no currency or compensation with it, just like mowing my own yard doesn’t.
Prayer for others and being a good example to them despite the trials and hardships of life, this has prayer currency, doing good for others and expecting nothing from them in return, this has prayer currency, telling them about the son who died to redeem us from sin and death, this has the ultimate prayer currency.
So the next time you pray for something for yourself ask yourself how many prayer bucks do I have saved up, is it enough to ask for and receive what I want or need?
